Summer Infant Baby Monitor Black Friday.I waited quite awhile before reviewing this monitor as my last Summer Infant monitor (a non-digital) stopped functioning fairly quickly after my purchase. I have now had this monitor for two months and still have no issues with it. It installed easily, such a breeze for setup. I can’t attest to how difficult it would be to add a second camera because we only have one baby. I didn’t want to pay this much for a camera, but I’m glad we did. No one can look in on our baby except us because this is digital. The last camera, I could see my neighbor’s kids! And then, of course, it stopped working. Hah. So this is a definite improvement.

The only time I get color is when she is taking her afternoon nap, for about a 30 minute segment when the sun shines right in her window. Other times of the day it uses the night vision, which is a little annoying when I know there’s enough light in the room. But, really, I don’t need the color image so it’s not a big deal. It’s a bit grainy when I zoom in, but I don’t expect to be able to see her chest move with each breath so that’s also not a problem for me. The sound is great. It even picks up the slight air flow if I turn on her little fan in the opposite corner of the room, so I can know that the volume is up without having to manually check. I love the size of the monitor. It is only slightly larger than my iPhone.

Angelcare Baby Monitor Black Friday. We have used it for less than a month now. At around 4AM Friday morning, the alarm sounded, then stopped, and then sounded again after getting into the room. Our baby was congested and having trouble breathing. He was so congested that he couldn’t even cry. It took 10 minutes to suction everything out of his nose with saline drops before he could cry again. Our alarm clock wasn’t set to go off until over an hour later. He was a little unusual that morning in his feeding demands (12 oz. over 4.5 hours instead of about 4-6 oz. during that time!) but then was fine again. I never even thought about congestion causing an alarm but it can happen and can be just as dangerous as SIDS if it results in the inability to breathe! I noticed when I turned on the parent unit that night that it was a little warmer than usual in there at 78 degrees but it seemed perfectly comfortable to us. The causes were likely that the vent was closed so as much A/C couldn’t get in there (even though the door of the room is open all the time) – which we didn’t remember to open when the room became occupied by the baby. Also, we had been shopping for a humidifier because we have to have one in our bedroom and run it all night (and if it runs out of water, it generally wakes us up because we become congested) but weren’t happy with anything we found and wanted to keep searching. I picked very quickly that night and spent more than I wanted to. It was just an emergency by that time. Thankfully, this just happened to line up with when we had plenty of money to spare so that we could buy the humidifier without thinking twice about it. This should have happened before now (because it is finally starting to get to be in the 70s instead of 90s during the day) but didn’t for whatever reason. Pretty sure it was our guardian angel.

Philips AVENT Baby Monitor  Black Friday. I don’t agree that this monitor has crystal-clear quality at all! I was sorely disappointed the first time I got it all charged up & plugged it in to actually monitor our baby. For a day or 2 there was a dull hum/ring. I was so frustrated and was planning on returning it but the humming went away. But even now if I have my volume set on the 4th or 5th loudest option I hear buzzing (not static) about 1/2 the time. And that’s regardless of where I am in the house or what the monitor is near. I keep the volume at 3 and it’s fine – I can hear our baby if she’s upset & that’s the point. For me anyway.

Some people have complained about out of range beeping all the time. Occasionally that happens to us, but not too often. We live in a 2400 sq ft ranch style home with baby’s room & our room on opposite ends. I wondered if something was wrong with our monitor since the range is supposed to be amazing so I checked the manual. The range they give is basically for if you’re out in a field with nothing but space in between you. So depending on your home’s layout you may or may not have issues. I don’t know why I have very occassionaly got the out of range warning when my monitor has not moved!

I have a  few of the common complaints for  Samsung Baby Monitor Black Friday

 

  •  The trigger alert/vibration can be silenced by turning the alert volume down to zero. After reading the manual I figured out that the trigger alert was completely superflous since the screen and audio turn on automatically once the sensitivity is set properly.
  •  It does take trial and error to setup the sensitivity properly, but the camera does a good job ignoring atmospheric sounds. Once we had the sensitivity dialed in, the basic functionality was absolutely clear and static free in a cluttered frequency building where all other monitors suffered from static, popping, and interference.
  •  The lullaby music playback is unusable since the quality of sound from the small tinny speaker is awful. Push to talk works OK, though.
  • The temperature monitor is also completely unusable and is consistently ~20 degrees higher than actual.
  •  the charger door on the receiving unit is flimsy and just gets in the way. Mine fell off after a few days but I discovered it was better not having it in the way when I needed to plug it in so I ripped the small charger flap off and threw it in the trash. I also think the Summer Infant stand design is better.
  •  It’s true that if plugged in without power it doesn’t operate. Be careful that if plugged in for charging that there is electricity coming from the outlet or else it will be off without you knowing it.
